Electronic visa to St. Petersburg: is it really that easy?

From October 1, 2019, foreign citizens have the opportunity to obtain an electronic single-entry business, tourist or humanitarian visa to visit St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, the territory of the Far Eastern Federal District and the Kaliningrad Region.

A visa can be issued for citizens of the following states:

Far Eastern Federal District Algeria, Bahrain, Brunei, India, Iran, Qatar, China (including Taiwan), Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Morocco, Mexico, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Tunisia, Turkey, Japan
Kaliningrad region Austria, Andorra, Bahrain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Vatican, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Denmark, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Qatar, Cyprus, China (including Taiwan), Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Northern Macedonia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Philippines, Finland, France, Croatia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, Estonia, Japan

Electronic visas can only be of the following categories:

  • ordinary business (travel purpose is business),
  • ordinary tourist (travel purpose is tourism),
  • ordinary humanitarian (travel purposes are development of sports ties, cultural ties, scientific and technical ties).

If the purpose of your trip to the Russian Federation does not correspond to any of the above, you must contact the diplomatic representatives or consular post of the Russian Federation for a regular (non-electronic) visa.

Please note that there are the following restrictions on the conditions for crossing the border of the Russian Federation and the stay of foreign citizens in the territory of the Russian Federation on the basis of an electronic single-entry business, tourist or humanitarian visa:

Electronic visa processing period no more than 4 calendar days from the date of filing a completed application
Checkpoints of the State Border of the Russian Federation
  • Aircraft checkpoints: Vladivostok (Knevichi), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Khomutovo), Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (Yelizovo), Blagoveshchensk, Khabarovsk (Novy), Anadyr (Ugolny), Kaliningrad (Khrabrovo), Ulan-Ude (Mukhino), Chita (Kadala), Pulkovo;
  • maritime checkpoints: Vladivostok, Zarubino, Posyet, Korsakov, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Kaliningrad (sites in the cities of Kaliningrad, Baltiysk and Svetly), Vysotsk, Grand Port of St. Petersburg (Marine Station), Passenger Port of St. Petersburg;
  • railway checkpoints: Pogranichny, Khasan, Makhalino, Mamonovo, Sovetsk;
  • vehicle checkpoints: Poltavka, Turiy Rog, Bagrationovsk, Gusev, Mamonovo (Gzhehotki), Mamonovo (Gronovo), Morskoe, Pogranichny, Sovetsk, Chernyshevskoye, Ivangorod , Torfyanovka, Brusnichnoe, Svetogorsk;
  • pedestrian checkpoint: Ivangorod.
Validity period 30 days
The period of permitted stay Up to 8 days from the date of entry, within the validity period of the visa
Freedom of movement Foreign citizens arriving in the Russian Federation on electronic visas have the right to freedom of movement within the territory of the subject of the Russian Federation, which they entered, and are obliged to leave the territory of the Russian Federation through the same checkpoint
