Doing business in Russia: How to deal with sanctions in the food and beverage industry

On Friday, June 8, 2018, our colleagues Veronika Kochieva, Legal Team Leader, and Luca Orselli, SCHNEIDER GROUP representative in Italy, came to the Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce in Milan to participate in an event devoted to the burning issue of doing business in Russia and dealing with sanctions in the Food & Beverage industry.

In the beginning of the meeting, Mrs Barbiani, General Secretary, emphasized the importance of close relationship between Russia and Italy and reported on how well Russian economy can cope with crisis situations through illustrating the significant import growth within the first quarter of 2018.

Luca Orselli supported this by showing figures about the amount of Russian imports of the key categories in Food & Beverage. He also highlighted the good positions Italian goods have in the rank of importers. Another point raised by Mr.  Orselli was the role of businesses having sound strategies and maintaining strong relationships with local partners.

In addition, Mrs Kochieva presented current situation of sanctions and counter sanctions in the Food & Beverage industry and raised the question of helping companies check how their products can be imported to Russia.

Overall, the meeting was highly successful and the majority of participants expressed their wish to be invited on further events on the topic. In addition, several issues were acknowledged as essential to be discussed in the nearest future.
