Restrictions on deposits of foreign individuals and Russian subsidiaries of foreign companies have been lifted

On 4 August 2026, the President of the Russian Federation signed Decree No. 550, which amends the temporary procedure for the fulfilment of obligations to foreign creditors established by Decree No. 95.

The special procedure for the fulfilment of obligations in respect of bank deposits no longer applies to deposits made by:

• individuals who are foreign creditors
• branches, permanent representative offices and other separate or independent structural divisions of foreign companies, provided that they are registered in Russia.

Consequently, the restriction of RUB 10 million per calendar month and the requirement to credit amounts exceeding this limit to a Type ‘C’ account no longer apply to these depositors.

Furthermore, foreign individuals and branches of foreign companies registered in Russia are entitled to receive, in RUB, funds that were credited by banks to Type ‘C’ accounts during the period from 1 June 2026 until the new Decree comes into force.

However, for bank deposits made directly by foreign companies, the special procedure stipulated in Decree No. 95 remains in force.
