On July 3, 2017 the Head of Legal & Tax department of the Kyiv office of SCHNEIDER GROUP, Mr. Artem Barinov, participated in the informational event organized by the Law Committee of the German-Ukrainian Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The event was dedicated to the topic “Court practice and actual changes in the area of trademark protection”. The speakers of the event were well-known law practitioners from the leading law firms.
In his welcome speech Mr. Alexander Markus, the Chairman of the Board of the German-Ukrainian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, said that the Chamber quite often receives information from German companies on violation of their intellectual property rights on the territory of Ukraine. It confirms the fact that the topic of trademark protection is quite relevant at the moment.
Mr. Barinov, the Head of Legal & Tax department of SCHNEIDER GROUP Kyiv held the presentation on the topic of “Loss of a trademark’s distinctiveness as a basis for termination of legal protection: current court practice”. During his speech Mr. Barinov explained the definition of “trademark distinctiveness” and gave practical advice how to prevent the distinctive ability loss which is often used by the competitors to declare a trademark invalid.
